Atlanta-area firm to buy Carreker

Dallas financial services software firm Carreker Corp. has agreed to be purchased by CheckFree Corp. for $206 million, the firms said Tuesday.

Norcross, Ga.-based Checkfree (NASDAQ: CKFR - News) will pay $8.05 a share for the outstanding stock of Carreker (NASDAQ: CANI - News).

Carreker produced $2.07 million in profit on $116 million revenue in its most recent fiscal year. That revenue declined from the prior year, when the company brought in $118.9 million, but produced a $1.2 million net loss.

CheckFree made $127 million profit in 2006 on $879.4 million revenue.

In announcing the deal, CheckFree stated that Carreker's offerings and payment technology consulting business will complement its own financial services technology products.

The companies say they expect the deal to close by March 31. It is subject to regulatory review.
