Macrovision Corp., a maker of copyright protection software, said Wednesday it acquired Mediabolic Inc., a maker of software used to connect consumer electronics, for roughly $43.5 million in cash.
The company expects the acquisition to reduce 2007 earnings by up to 10 cents per share, but expects 2008 earnings to grow as a result of the deal.
Mediabolic, based in San Mateo, Calif., is a privately held company whose customers include Intel, HP, Fujitsu and Creative. It was founded in 1999.
Shares of Macrovision were trading down 9 cents to $28.17 in morning Nasdaq trading.
